A wonderful two day trip along a section of the West Branch of the Susquehanna River. We ran a relatively remote section, putting in at the PFBC Frenchville boat launch (near Morrisdale and next to Deer Creek) and taking out at Keating. This section is about 38 miles long, and passes by Karthaus along the way. Before Karthaus, there are some cabins and homes along the river. After Karthaus, the river passes through state forest and game lands for most of the way, and has a pretty secluded feeling. It is quite beautiful, carving its way through forested canyons. We started our trip with the USGS gauge at Karthaus reading about 1.85 feet, a bit below the recommended minimum for this section. Although we had to drag our loaded canoes through a couple of shallow gravel bars, we were able to float most of the trip. A strong storm on the second day boosted the water level by a few inches.
