It being the first Sunday of the month it was time for one of my shorter walks for Hornsea District Walking Club. So at 10 o'clock on a bright Sunday morning, twelve of us gathered at Field House Farm on the Yorkshire Wolds near the little village of Tibthorpe. Our participants today came from as far afield as Winestead, Barton-upon-Humber, Leven, Brandesburton, Beverley and Pocklington, but none from Hornsea! Today's walk would be 'about' 7 miles and go via North Dalton, a section of the Minster Way, and the wide, not so deep, valley of Deep Dale. There are several 'Deep Dales' on the Yorkshire Wolds - this one is probably the least deep, but is probably the widest.
The coffee barn at Field House Farm was already doing brisk business as the twelve walkers headed off down the field-edge permissive path to join the right-of-way running through Deep Dale. Here we turned left to head east along the dale as far as a gate where a path branches right up a short steep bank out of the dale. At the top we passed a dewpond from where there were views back to Field House. A farm track heads straight for about a mile down to the village of North Dalton. There we opted for a loop round the village via Main Street and Back Lane, where we met up with the Minster Way - a 50mile walk linking Beverley Minster and York Minster. We paused on Back Lane for our 'elevenses' coffee break.
