I missed the hourly bus into Chester so I decided to follow the disused "Cheshire Lines Committee" track bed (SUSTRANS route 5) into the City. An interesting walk with all the wooden sculptures along the route. Then I followed the Shropshire Canal beneath the City Walls to the junction with the currently unusable Chester Canal built to give access from the Shropshire into the River Dee; however the river lock is derelict, although plans seam to be in progress to restore the lock and subsequently build an additional lock to enable boats to pass "The Weir" into the non-tidal River Dee. Whilst following "The River Promenade Trail" I investigated the footbridge built along side the railway bridge across the Dee then around the Race Course to the Grove where I turned off to see "The Roman Amphitheatre".
