This clock came into the workshop not working, both mainsprings are fully wound up! Smiths licensed the floating balance from Hettich but by 1960 had developed an improved version capable of easier adjustment using an external calibrated adjustment. From about 1966 the name "Smiths Industries" appears on some models.
After removing the movement from the case, first I let down both mainsprings (they were both fully wound tight up) First problem spotted was the time mainspring barrel cap is off! Gave the gong side a small wined and the centre pinions are tight, as it was difficult to turn the hand to check the gong train. Freed the centre pinions a bit and the gong train seems to work OK.
