Our first flight, direct from Melbourne to Santiago, Chile, took a great circle paralleling the Antarctic peninsula then cutting up along the Andes to Santiago. We got great views of the snow-capped peaks.

After landing we headed into town. It turned out that the accommodation we had booked had no electricity, so we walked along the road and found another hotel. Then we went off sightseeing. Icecream shops, street markets, views of the city from the local parks etc.
