We arrive in our first Chilean town, Punta Arenas, in the afternoon. This gives us time to work out, hear a lecture, and have lunch before heading out on tour! We do a walking city tour today, visiting an Antarctica museum, a church, and hearing stories as we walk around the town to a viewpoint. After taking in the view, we go to a local restaurant where we experience the Chilean local drink - calafate sour. It is made with Pisco Sour and calafate - a purple berry.
After enjoying our local drink, our tour is over. Instead of walking back to the ship, we decide to take a tour on our own. We walk through town to the coastline, where we walk to the southernmost tip. There is an orange monument there symbolizing the sothernmost tip of Chile. There is also a monument of the The schooner Ancud - the ship sent by Chile in 1843 to claim sovereignty over the Strait of Magellan, as well as a monument of the Armada de Chile - the maritime protection force.
