Tell S. Berna set the American two-mile record in Ithaca on May 7, 1910, and again repeated this feat in 1911 and 1912. His 1912 American record at two miles stood for twenty years. He was the IC4A cross country champ in his sophomore year and finished second to Cornell’s John Paul Jones the next two years. In addition, he was the IC4A two-mile champion twice (record holder). A three-time All-American, he competed for the United States in the 1912 Summer Olympics held in Stockholm, Sweden in the 3000 meter team where he won the gold medal with his team mates Norman Taber and George Bonhag. He also finished fifth in the individual 5000 meters.
