We have two tours in Raiatea today. We begin early in the morning with a land tour or the "Trucky Tour"! Our first stop is at the botanical gardens where we see the "Rose de Porcelain" which really does look like a porcelain flower.
Next, we go to Taputapuatea Marae, which is a Unesco Heritage Site. In pre-colonial times, marae were the basic structures of Polynesian society symbolizing religious and political powers. Taputapuatea is the most important marae in Polynesia, dedicated to the god Oro and the birthplace of the Ma’ohi civilization.
