Today I got an early start and headed to the Vatican, so I got into St. Peter's Basilica shortly after it opened. This meant very little waiting in the security line, and the Basilica itself was nearly empty. But then I waited in line to climb the dome, and that was about an hour. I took the afternoon to rest and relax before heading to the Teatro dell'Opera for a performance of Peter Grimes by English composer Benjamin Britten. And after the opera I walked past some of the monuments I'd seen before in the daytime so I could see them lit up at night.
