Today, Wednesday 19th September 2018, it was 74 years that W/C Gibson and S/L Warwick crashed in Steenbergen. Every year there is a small ceremony at the cemetery where they are buried to remember this event. Wing Commander Gibson was the founder of the 617 Squadron (better known as the Dambusters) and survived - against all laws and statistics - hundreds of flights. To finally tragically find death in Steenbergen, together with Squadron Leader Jim Warwick. On 19 September 1944 their aircraft crashed here.
