Today Amazon is burning faster than ever before, but the truth is that we lose approximately 5000 acres of Amazon rainforests every day.
Contrary to popular belief, poor smallholder farmers are the fastest-growing segment. We have spent two years with logging communities to understand the economics and challenges of the native timber industry.
Logging communities do not have access to high-margin channels and sell the lumber to noncompliant regional construction supply chains.
Low ROI leaves farmers no options but to cut more trees to survive, and when there are no valuable trees left, they clear the land for cattle ranching.
Over the past two years, we have been working with logging communities to build a solution to this problem. Our process technology helps farmers increase tree yields by 5X, and our Vision-enabled provenance platform secures customer trust and simplifies logistics to unlock demand.
Most importantly, we are proving our business model with logging waste, generating additional revenues for communities without jeopardizing current revenue flows. As we scale demand and move up the value chain, higher margins will increasingly shift markets towards a greener, more profitable ecosystem.
Update:
Our operations are located in Altamira, the heart of the violent deforestation conflicts. I can no longer ensure the safety of my teams, and we have retreated to fight another day. However, the silver lining is that there is a greener, more profitable solution to deforestation, I am hopeful.
