With nice weather and almost no snow in the Southern Sierra, and not wishing to pay for an overnight permit as self-issue permits for Inyo NF are not available this year (absolutely related to COVID-19 and definitely not to make more money off online reservations), I decided to head to Horseshoe Meadow for some day hikes. I admit I've never found the region particularly interesting, but after this time I'm not entirely sure why. This was probably my favorite outing of the year and I found the area to be absolutely fantastic. The weather was wonderful, if slightly chilly on windy summits, I didn't see anyone else, and the views were great. Day 1 stats: • Peaks (named or >= 260 feet of prominence): 5 • Distance: 16.5 miles • Elevation gain: 4,833 feet • Books: Troubled Blood by Robert Galbraith/J. K. Rowling
