On Saturday, November 9, 2024, the Nativo Coffee Shop at I Square (1825 Eye Street, NW) and the CWTDC co-hosted a walking tour of the White House neighborhood during the Civil War era, with Ed Moser and Paul Mazzuca as our guides. The tour and the weather were glorious! The event started with breakfast at Nativo and then to Admiral Farragut Square Park, the Old Executive Office Building, the Renwick Gallery, the Blair House, the Major Rathbone residence (where we took a group picture), the site of the Sickles-Key brawl and murder, the Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy historical markers, the Decatur House and enslaved persons quarters, the von Steuben statue, and the Andrew Jackson statue. The White House perimeter was inaccessible due to fencing being installed for the Inauguration. The event ended back where we started with out hosts Victor and Nakita.
